The Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons sat down with GB News's Gloria de Piero

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons has opened up about the discrimination she has endured throughout her life - but has definitively debunked claims it could "end up defining" her.

In conversation with Gloria de Piero, Nus Ghani, the Conservative MP for Sussex Weald, recounted the types of discrimination she has faced on her way to becoming the first Deputy Speaker from an ethnic minority - and the first female Muslim Minister to speak from the despatch box.

Despite her achievements, when asked if she believes anti-Muslim prejudice is still present in politics, she said: "Well, that happened to me. And the reality is that you can lose your job in politics for multiple reasons, right? I never expected to be told that my faith was an issue.

"I've got wonderful colleagues in my party. It came as a huge surprise. And then what unfolded was completely unnecessary. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through that again. So for me, it was important that I challenged it."

However, she expressed concern that if she "constantly" comments on it, it would end up defining her in her workplace.

She said: "Fundamentally, it should be defining the people, the protagonists, who used their power at the time to try and diminish who I am.

"The reality also is that I am still here, and I have continued with my career."
