Conservative MP who was the victim of a suspected arson attack says it is 'the latest in a long line'
A conservative MP has spoken of his shock at falling victim to an alleged arson attack over Christmas
Mike Freer, the Tory MP for North Finchley and Golders Green, said he fears a fire at his constituency surgery on Christmas Eve was just the latest incident in a series of threats to his life.
Mr Freer, a former close friend of the murdered MP David Amess’, told Patrick Christys on GB News: “Someone set fire to an old shed which we use to store just surplus materials, but it's very close to the building.
“The police and the fire brigade were there incredibly quickly to get the fire out. We were unable to access the CCTV because we had no power because all the electricity basically melted. But the police were able to see that there were some suspects who were on the cameras in the car park leaving.
“I'm told the police are now actively pursuing the information as to who the suspects might be. And then once we get some arrests, we'll be able to know what the motives were.
“We don't know if it was what I would call a random incident if there is such a thing, or whether there was a political angle to it at this stage. We don't know that. Over the years, I've had numerous, what I would call low level incidents from notes on the car to Molotov cocktails on the doorstep.
“I've had a couple of run-ins with Muslims Against Crusades. And obviously most recently, the man that went on to kill my colleague David Amess. When he was arrested and interviewed he admitted he did come to Finchley armed with the intention to harm.
“So sadly, over the years, a lot of low-level stuff has become almost routine. But there've been two or three quite serious incidents, this being the last and latest one.”
