The new 'weapons' are expected to send people to sleep and slow down cognition and alertness

China is said to be focusing on advanced brain warfare technology including putting enemies to sleep and controlling their thoughts, a new report suggests.

Two recent studies by China's People's Liberation Army reveal that the military is working on its "hard power" weapons with technology to win wars without conventional weapons.

According to reports, the new "weapons" will send people to sleep, slow down cognition and alertness as well as confuse decision making.

The army is reportedly developing weapons which can be controlled directly by a soldier's thoughts and can manipulate enemies.

President Xi's military is also said to be looking into "genetic drugs" which are capable of changing genetic and physiological traits of people.

Earlier this month, the "Warfare in the Cognitive Age: NeuroStrike and the PLA's Advanced Psychological Weapons and Tactics" report was published.

Researchers concluded: "The PLA is at the forefront of incorporating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces and novel biological weapons into its military strategies."

Devices which are being developed include anti-sleep glasses and "soft-kill radio waves" weapons.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The report said: "In summary, the PLA's integration of cutting-edge technologies such as AI, [brain-computer interfaces].

"And biological weapons into its military arsenal brings significant psychological dimensions to warfare, extending beyond their physical effects."

A report published in 2022, found "five battles of cognition" to develop for future conflicts.

The report added: "The objective is to create a powerful deterrent and asymmetric advantage."

Earlier this week, a declassified intelligence assessment found that China, Russia, Iran and Cuba tried to involve themselves in 2022 US congressional elections.

A report suggested that there is strong evidence that China "approved efforts to try to influence a handful of midterm races".

It added that it was likely part of a series of directives by Chinese Communist Party leaders to "intensify efforts to influence US policy and public opinion in China’s favour."
