The council is continuing to monitor the situation and provide updates when available.

The community is set to hold its carnival at the recreation ground from July 18 to July 20.

The park, referred to as the Rec amongst the local community, is a popular public park surrounded by trees, close to the centre of town.

In recent years, the Rec has undergone various improvements, including the installation of a new play area, skatepark, ballpark and a CCTV camera.

The issues at Stowmarket Recreational Ground are just one of several incidents involving illegal encampments in public spaces across Britain.

Recently, a much-loved local parkrun in Bournemouth was forced to cancel its scheduled race after travellers shocked volunteers with an overnight encampment.

In addition, Swanshurst Park, in the Billesley area of Birmingham, saw travellers set up camp at a park for the fifth time this year.

Both incidents left residents frustrated with the repeated unauthorised encampments, urging local authorities to take stronger action.
