The US president has been the subject of several blunders over recent weeks

Joe Biden claimed to have “ended cancer” in his latest gaffe during a speech on improving access to mental health care.

The US president made the statement on Tuesday after suggesting American people had “lost faith” in “being able to do big things”.

Video footage of the speech appears to differ from the official White House transcript, which states Biden said: “We can end cancer as we know it.”

However, in his actual address Biden said: “One of the things I’m always asked is… why Americans have sort of lost faith for a while on being – being able to do big things.

“‘If you could do anything at all Joe what would you do?’ I said I’d cure cancer.

“And they looked at me like, ‘why cancer?’ Because no one thinks we can, that’s why, and we can. We ended cancer as we know it.”

In 2015, Biden’s eldest son, Beau, passed away following a battle with brain cancer at the age of 46.

Biden's most recent blunder saw Conservatives poking fun at him, saying that he should have put out a “press release” on the news.

Colorado representative Lauren Boebert said: “Biden just told everyone that he cured cancer. I feel like that would have at least gotten a press release.”

Omri Ceren, an adviser to Texas senator Ted Cruz, asked: “Who is briefing him and what are they telling him and why haven’t adults intervened?”

His latest claim risks dominating the president’s announcement to expand access to mental health care by requiring insurers to identify gaps in their coverage.

Biden said: “Right now, many health plans don’t collect data. Under my administration’s new plan, they would be required to collect that data.

“When facts reveal that mental health care is not being treated on par with physical healthcare, they would be required by law to fix it.”

His recent comments have sparked concern over the last month and saw him leave an audience surprised at a gun safety event when he ended a speech with the remark, “God save the queen, man”.

He also called Rishi Sunak “Mr President” on the prime minister’s first visit to the White House.

Two weeks later, he claimed that Vladimir Putin was “losing the war in Iraq” rather than Ukraine.
