Prolific grooming gangs whistleblower and campaigner Maggie Oliver has accused the Government of "lying through their teeth to conceal the truth" in the latest blow to Sir Keir Starmer's national inquiry.

Speaking to GB News star Patrick Christys, the former detective constable said: "I have seen successive Governments and a whole stream of politicians cover up, lie through their teeth in order to conceal the truth of what's going on.

"I think the difference this time is that there are a number of survivors who have found their voices and are speaking the truth."

Ms Oliver further accused the Government of "trying to water down this inquiry" by "trying to expand it to look at all kinds of group-based abuse".

She said: "They've been trying to encourage the survivor panel to expand it, even to cover CSEA. So what Jess Phillips is saying today is me seeing her on a very back foot. She knows that the time is up."

Earlier on Tuesday, the Safeguarding Minister addressed MPs in the House of Commons, insisting that any allegations of delay, lack of interest or widening of the scope of the inquiry were "false".

"The inquiry will remain laser-focused on grooming gangs, as Baroness Casey recommended," the Labour minister claimed.

So far, three survivors have quit the Government's national inquiry panel over the way the national scandal has been handled.
