Surrey Police have confirmed that 35-year-old William Smith, who was mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth on November 3 is now back in custody.

Officers said Mr Smith handed himself into Wandsworth Prison today ending the manhunt that had been launched following his accidental release.

The force thanked members of the public who shared their appeal for information and asked that any posts or photos relating to the search be removed.

Mr Smith, a convicted fraudster from Surrey, was filmed by ITV News returning to the prison on this morning.
