A Derbyshire pensioner has hit out at Labour after the local hubs in local communities were slapped with new taxes in the Chancellor's Budget.

Now, increased business rates are believed to be threatening the very existence of the local public house.

"There'll be more and more pubs closing which will make the country worse. It's going to have a knock-on effect everywhere, isn't it? If you've got nowhere to go, it's going to ruin towns," pensioner and pub-goer Andrew warned, while speaking to GB News' Will Godley.

He continued: "And obviously the landlords are going to have to pay more tax.

"People just can't afford to come out. It's not going to be the people in the pubs."

Will then asked: "Do you think the Government is supporting pubs enough?"

Then Andrew gave his honest opinion, saying: "No, not one bit really.

"I'm quite lucky because I'm retired, but there's lots and lots of people will not be coming to the pubs, and I'm not going to come in the pub and just sit on my own. So there will be fewer and fewer people."
