Errol Musk has defended his son's SpaceX approach following the latest rocket explosion, stating: "There's no failure in science.

"You learn that's something we're doing that's not right."

The elder Musk described the setbacks as "simply another step towards finally having it work properly."

SpaceX's Starship exploded during Tuesday's test flight, the third consecutive failure following explosions in January and March.

The rocket suffered a fuel leak and spun out of control during re-entry after launching from the company's Texas facility.

Elon Musk acknowledged improvements despite the explosion, noting that "Starship made it to the scheduled ship engine cutoff, so big improvement over last flight!"

He added there was "no significant loss of heat shield tiles during ascent."
