This is the moment convicted sex-trafficker and Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell refused to answer questions in a congressional deposition.

Maxwell invoked her Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination while being grilled by the US House's Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Monday.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in helping Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls.

Democrats on the House committee accused her of using her deposition to campaign for clemency from Donald Trump.

They are now calling on the US President to rule out doing such a deal.

David Markus, Maxwell's lawyer, said he advised her to plead the Fifth as she has a pending habeas petition which "demonstrates that her conviction rests on a fundamentally unfair trial".

Her grilling came as US Congressmen Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie were the first lawmakers to lay eyes the unredacted Epstein files on Monday.

Millions of files, though many redacted, have been released by the US Department of Justice so far - drawing in Lord Mandelson, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and more.
