Charlie Kirk's widow, Erika, forgave her husband's killer in an extraordinary memorial service for the activist.

In a speech at Glendale's State Farm Stadium, Mrs Kirk said: "I forgive him because it was what Christ did and it's what Charlie would do.

"The answer we know from the Gospel is always and always love, love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us."

Mr Kirk, aged 31, was shot and killed while attending an event at Utah Valley University earlier this month.

Thousands were in attendance at State Farm Stadium to witness Donald Trump, Mrs Kirk and Republican heavyweights JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, Robert F Kennedy Jr and more give rousing addresses in Mr Kirk's memory.

The slain activist was compared to Jesus Christ by RFK Jr - while Mrs Kirk extraordinarily forgave his killer.

"He did so much more than tell the truth - he lived it," JD Vance, a friend of Mr Kirk's, said. "He lived his life well, he raised a beautiful family... any parent would be proud to have him as a son."

While Mr Trump told crowds: "I hate my opponents... [Charlie Kirk] did not hate his opponents - he wanted the best for them."

The President and former ally Elon Musk also appeared to make amends in the crowd.

Mrs Kirk, who will take up her husband's post as CEO of Turning Point USA, finished her emotional address by saying: "I love you, Charlie, and I will make you proud.

"God bless you all and God bless America."

Donald Trump closes Charlie Kirk's memorial with touching call to action

Donald Trump has just brought Charlie Kirk's memorial to a close with a touching call to action and a tribute to the activist's widow Erika.

"The lesson of Charlie's life is that you should never underestimate what one person can do with a good heart, a righteous cause, a cheerful spirit and the will to fight, fight, fight," Mr Trump said.

Under Mrs Kirk's leadership, Turning Point will "become bigger and stronger than ever before", the President said.

He then applauded Erika Kirk as she returned to the stage before embracing her, kissing her and patting her on the shoulder.

As the curtain fell on the evening, the pair walked to the lectern hand-in-hand before a final embrace.

He also hailed Charlie Kirk for "standing up for persecuted Christians and Jews on college campuses", and for helping unite the Maga movement.

"But Charlie loved debate not because he excelled at it, but because it was the vehicle of bringing the light of truth to dark places and Charlie Kirk bought many truths in his life."

"He was fearless and he was bold as any follower would hope would be true of a leader, and in this, he showed all of us how to carry on after his death," he added.

"No father would stand back and say 'no you just take my son, take him I will meet you to the hospital'. I got into the back of the SUV and let me tell you something - his team was amazing."

"We did everything we could to save Charlie, but Charlie was already gone," Dr Turek added.

"His face was looking at mine but he wasn't looking at me. He was looking past me right into eternity and if it is any comfort at all, I learned later that Charlie felt no pain, he died instantly."
