Ricky Gervais has hit out at the Oscars after revealing a parody speech following last night’s controversial event.
A fan took to Twitter to post a video of Gervais’ memorable speech during the 2020 Golden Globe Awards, calling on others to retweet if they wanted to see the British actor to host the Oscars.
Gervais replied to the tweet with a parody speech, which started: "Hello. I hope this show helps cheer up the ordinary people watching at home.
“If you’re unemployed for example, take some comfort in the fact that even if you had a job, your salary probably wouldn't be as much as the goody bag all the actors have just been given.
"I'm proud to announce that this is the most diverse and progressive Oscars ever.
“Looking out I see people from all walks of life. Every demographic under the sun.

Will Smith slaps Chris Rock during Sunday's ceremony

Sunday’s ceremony was not short of talking points after Will Smith took to the stage to slap presenter Chris Rock for comments about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
During a segment where he roasted some of the nominees, Rock turned his attention to Smith, before also referring to his wife.
He said: "Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane II, can't wait to see it,” before Smith reacted.
While many people thought the episode was staged, Rock reacted by saying: “Oh, wow! Wow! Will Smith just smacked the **** out of me."
Rock added: "Wow, dude. It was a G.I. Jane joke," referencing the 1997 film "G.I. Jane" in which actress Demi Moore shaved her head.
Smith then responded by saying: "Keep my wife's name out of your ******* mouth,” to which Rock replied: "I'm going to. That's the greatest night in the history of television."
Jada Pinkett Smith told Billboard in December she has been battling alopecia, an autoimmune disorder which can cause hair loss and balding.
The New York Post also described the event as “Hollywood's biggest political campaign” after controversial comments about "toxic masculinity" were made alongside "gay" chants.
