The placement of the dish split opinion on social media

A woman has taken to social media to express her outrage after her neighbour installed a satellite dish directly outside her bedroom window, obstructing her view and preventing the window from opening properly.

The TikTok user @Seewara_xo shared footage showing the dish positioned so close to her window that it knocks against it when opened.

The woman claimed her neighbour had deliberately chosen to mount the dish in front of her window rather than his own.

"POV: Neighbour enters his selfish era and puts the satellite dish where you look out, not where he does," she wrote in the video caption."

The video quickly went viral, garnering more than 1.2 million views and sparking intense debate about property rights and neighbourly boundaries.

Many viewers suggested the woman might have legal grounds to challenge the installation.

One commenter wrote: "If a neighbour attaches something to their house that extends over your property line without your permission, it's considered an encroachment."

The woman asked viewers whether she was overreacting to the situation, posting: "Is this normal or am I overreacting?"

The footage showed not only how the dish partially blocked her garden view but also demonstrated that her window could no longer open fully due to the satellite dish's proximity.

The incident prompted numerous suggestions for revenge tactics from social media users. One person suggested: "Ok, so here's what you'll do - put some tin foil on your window, across the whole pane. Then open it right across the satellite dish. He won't get any reception whatsoever."

Another commenter advised: "The dishes don't work if they're just a few degrees out, say, if a window accidentally bumped into them... repeatedly... every week or so."

A third user warned against using magnets, writing: "Please DO NOT attach a strong magnet to your window and open it as this might affect your neighbour's viewing pleasure."

One person noted the dish appeared "really poorly installed" and suggested it might "fall off" during the night.

However, not all viewers advocated for confrontational approaches. Several commenters suggested a more diplomatic solution to the dispute.

"Talk to them, ask them to move it, then proceed with the rest of your life," one person wrote. Another advised: "If there wasn't any consent have them move it, state 'property encroachment'."

Some questioned the relevance of satellite dishes in modern times. One commenter asked: "Better question who even still use a big satellite dish anymore in 2025 aren't those things obsolete because of the newer ways to get television?"
