A 59-year-old woman has been prosecuted for taking delivery packages meant for her disabled neighbour, containing personal care items and crafting materials valued at £53.46.
Julie Gamgee from Gorleston, Norfolk, appeared before Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court after stealing the parcels, which had been delivered to her address on Beccles Road for her neighbour, who was unable to collect them.
The packages contained deodorants and wool belonging to the victim, a disabled woman who had arranged for her carer to retrieve them from Gamgee's property.
Police were contacted after discovering the parcels had been opened and the contents taken.
The judge said Gamgee is 'deeply ashamed' of her actions
Google MapsDuring the court proceedings, prosecutor Ghaff Khan explained that the victim had specifically instructed her carer to collect the deliveries from her neighbour's address, as her disability prevented her from retrieving them herself.
Defence solicitor Lisa Day told magistrates her client experienced a "momentary lapse of judgement" after the parcels were "left on her doorstep", adding that Gamgee is "deeply ashamed" of her actions.
The court ordered Gamgee to compensate her neighbour for the full value of £53.46, with the amount to be deducted from her benefits payments.
Magistrates waived court fees due to the defendant's financial circumstances.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
The neighbour row follows a 52-year-old woman being sentenced to three years and four months in prison for conducting a relentless harassment campaign against her upstairs neighbours through their Ring doorbell camera.
Drina Gray, from Wandsworth in south-west London, caused years of torment for the young couple, leaving them feeling trapped and frightened in their own home, Kingston upon Thames Crown Court heard.
Judge Peter Lodder KC said Gray had made her neighbours' lives "hell" by harassing them "morning, noon and night" despite court orders attempting to stop her behaviour.
The harassment began after victim Ben, 32, who bought his first flat in 2022, reported Gray for kicking her dog.

Gray's incidents included damaging the couple's front door cameras repeatedly, shouting threats such as "watch your back and that's a warning" and "I can get you [expletive] killed", the court heard.
She blasted loud music and hoovered the communal hallway in the early hours, causing Ben to lose his job at a startup company due to lack of sleep.
Ben told the court he found the threats "terrifying" and experienced suicidal thoughts, now requiring medication for anxiety and depression.
In a statement, he said he was forced to stay with friends and family, struggled to sleep, had nightmares and ultimately lost his "peace of mind, health and job".
