Footage has emerged of French police handing out water bottles to migrants

GB News star Michelle Dewberry has launched a scathing attack on French authorities after footage emerged showing police officers helping migrants cross the Channel.

She expressed fury at video evidence showing French police distributing life jackets to migrants in shallow water.

"You are seeing scores of men in water so shallow it could barely be called a puddle before they run into the Channel - there are loads of them", Michelle said.

She highlighted how migrants were shown boarding overcrowded vessels in waist-deep water whilst French authorities looked on.

Michelle Dewberry asked why we are paying the French

The presenter's outrage centred on Britain's £700 million payment to France specifically intended to prevent such crossings. "We are paying the French something like £700m to try and get them to stop this", she emphasised.

The footage revealed French patrol boats approaching the overcrowded dinghy and passing life jackets to those on board. "They are handing out life jackets for their voyage. It doesn't stop there. Off they go on their merry way", Michelle stated.

She described how another video showed French crews distributing refreshments to migrants preparing for their journey. "Another video shows another French crew handing out refreshments to said migrants", she said.

The presenter characterised these actions as direct encouragement of illegal crossings. "If this is not the French encouraging and enabling these crossings, I don't know what is", she declared.

Michelle Dewberry reacted with fury to the clip

Michelle sarcastically questioned whether migrants would next receive "an afternoon tea and a sandwich for their voyage", highlighting her frustration at what she perceived as French authorities facilitating rather than preventing Channel crossings.

She rejected the common terminology used to describe the vessels, insisting they should no longer be called small boats. "It's all well and good saying we're going to clamp down, but look at the size of these small boats", she said.

She compared their capacity to public transport, stating: "You look at the size of them now, it's akin to the occupancy of a double-decker bus". The presenter declared she would adopt new terminology going forward.

"I will never refer to them as a small boat anymore, I will call them illegal migrant ferries", Dewberry announced. Her comments came as footage showed more than 70 passengers crammed onto a single dinghy, with feet dangling over the sides as they prepared to cross to Dover.

Michelle expressed particular frustration at the contrast between government spending on migration and domestic concerns. "When I sit here day in day out talking to pensioners who are freezing in their homes, disabled people who are terrified about their benefits and you see this going on, it is so infuriating", she said.

The presenter directed criticism at the Prime Minister's handling of the situation. "I don't think Keir Starmer acknowledges the severity of what is going on", Michelle stated.

The incidents at Gravelines beach occurred just days after meetings between French President Emmanuel Macron and Starmer, where they agreed a new migrant returns deal.

Witnesses reported seeing groups of migrants emerging from sand dunes at around 5am before boarding the vessels, with no police presence on the beach itself.
