Police say the motive for the attack remains unclear

Police have made an arrest on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was set on fire as he walked home in Edgbaston, Birmingham, last night.

West Midlands Police said the victim was walking home from Dudley Road mosque when he was approached, sprayed with an unknown substance and then had his jacket set alight.

The victim was rushed to hospital with burns to his face but it is thought his injuries are not life threatening.

This afternoon, a man has been arrested after he was identified by officers who were in the area carrying out inquiries into the attack.
