French riot police clashed with protesters in Paris yesterday as civil unrest continues to unfold across the country.

Mass protests broke out in the country in recent weeks in response to Emannuel Macron’s controversial decision to push a bill through Parliament increasing the retirement age by two years to 64.

Demonstrations began at Place de l'Opera Paris on the eve of the constitutional court’s decision on whether or not they will move forward and apply the new law across the country, marking the 12th day of nationwide protests.

A number of smoke grenades and flares could be seen being let off in concerning scenes that emerged from the capital.

Macron has insisted raising the retirement age must go ahead in order to maintain the country’s pension scheme.
