Howard Cox has sent a fresh warning to the government over net zero, after it was announced by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that net zero targets will be eased.
Speaking on GB News Breakfast, the founder of FairFuelUK shared his thoughts on electric vehicles and green technology following the UK's delay on achieving a greener Britain.
Cox said: “If we're pushing this back to 2035, we won't miss the boat. It’s typical the environmentalists and the greenies always wanted to say those sorts of things.
“We've got 1.7 million supporters in FairFuelUK, and to put it bluntly people just do not trust electric vehicles. They are great technology but there are other clean fuel technologies, hydrogens on its way, and that gap now 12 years instead of seven years to actually, you know forcing us not to buy diesel, petrol vehicles is a good news for things like hydrogen, synthetic fuels, fuel catalyst, they're all these things are available.
“We don't have to rely on one fuel technology and let's face it, EVs are very lucky, drivers especially most of them are quite well off, and I think the market saturated now in terms of that they don't have to pay tax, they don't have to worry about those sort of things. Fuel duty is huge.
Cox continued: “We're investing huge amounts of money in things. We're putting £500million of taxpayer’s money into that. And the important thing at the moment is we should be looking at clean fuel technology, not just one mode of transport.
“Electric vehicles are not ready, the national grid's not ready. It won't be ready in 2030. It may not even be ready by 2035 unless we get nuclear power going. Because in terms of charging vehicles, the electricity is generated by fossil fuel power stations.
"We've got an autumn statement coming back up in about two month’s time and guess what I'm hearing fuel duty might be put up. So good old diesel and petrol drivers bear the brunt of that. And we all know what that does to inflation when it goes up.”
