The People’s Channel triumphed across several key time slots

GB News is officially Britain's number one news channel - marking an historic milestone in British broadcasting.

The People’s Channel triumphed across key time slots in July, winning the ratings race across Breakfast, mornings, weekday prime-time, and the coveted Sunday morning political slot.


This marks the first time the BBC News Channel has been overtaken by GB News for an entire month, a landmark achievement which comes just a month after GB News’ celebrated its fourth birthday.

Ben Briscoe, GB News’ Head of Programming, commented: “This is a seismic moment, not just for us, but for British broadcasting.

“We are ending the dominance of the BBC News Channel and Sky News.


“And there’s more to come. Starting in September, GB News will expand its programming with the launch of a brand new show from Washington DC, taking our coverage to an even wider audience.”

The results* are drawn from the industry’s official BARB ratings, which track total share and average views.

They also show how, in July, Sky News ranked a distant third behind the two frontrunners, GB News and BBC News Channel.

Across July, GB News recorded the following results:

  • Full day - 6 am to 2am
For GB News, average views were 80.61k (1.34 per cent share).BBC News Channel recorded 78.65k average views (1.30 per cent share). Sky News recorded 67k average views (1.11 per cent share). This puts GB News 2.5 per cent ahead of the BBC News Channel, and 20 per cent ahead of Sky News.
  • GB News Breakfast: Monday to Sunday - 6am to 9.30am:
Average views for GB News were 98.91k (3.57 per cent share), followed by Sky News with 71.56k (2.58 per cent share). This put GB News 38 per cent ahead of Sky News. BBC News Channel was at 41.25k average views, (1.49 per cent share).
  • Prime time weekdays (Monday to Friday) 6 - 11pm:
GB News recorded average views of 102.69k (0.92 per cent share), followed by BBC News Channel at 91.79k, (0.82 per cent share). This puts GB News 12 per cent higher than the BBC News Channel. Sky News was at 75.5k (0.67 per cent share). This means, based on Prime Time average views, GB News was 36 per cent higher than Sky News
  • Sunday mornings political slot: 9.30 - 11am: The Camilla Tominey Show

The Camilla Tominey Show secured 123.9k average views (2.97 per cent share), followed by BBC News Channel at 102.78k ( 2.47 per cent share).

This puts GB News 21 per cent of the BBC News Channel.

Sky News recorded 78.98k average (1.9 per cent share) which puts GB News puts 57 per cent share above Sky News.
