Britons have raged at plans for UK pubs and restaurants to charge up to £2 extra for condiments such as ketchup and mayonnaise.

The move comes following celebrity chef Rick Stein's decision to charge extra for each condiment at his fish and chips restaurant in Cornwall while pub chain Slug and Lettuce has increased the price of a pint by.

Speaking to GB News, several Midlanders shared their thoughts on the idea, and not one response was positive.

One local said: “It's a little pub, like what's behind me. It doesn't warrant 20p extra. It's ridiculous. I don't see the point!”

Another said: “It’s obviously all the Government trying to get more money out of us. That's it. No, not for me, thank you. I won't be out.”

A third pubgoer slammed the decision: “I'm not happy about it, to be fair. I don't know if Slug and Lettuce are the only ones that are going to be doing it, but it's just, it's going to stop people from wanting to go, you know? It should be happy hour, not unhappy hour.”
