Phoebe Plummer claimed people will soon be fighting over loaves of bread in Lidl if the UK does not change its net zero targets

A Just Stop Oil spokesperson clashed with Jacob Rees-Mogg in a row over the UK Government’s net zero targets.

Phoebe Plummer was filmed earlier this year throwing soup over Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers painting at the National Gallery last year.

Plummer appeared on Rees-Mogg’s GB News show State of the Nation to debate how the UK can change its approach to fossil fuel consumption.

Rees-Mogg asked Plummer: “What are we going to do in terms of transport, we still need petrol for cars and we need diesel for lorries?

“How are we going to get goods into supermarkets without this?

Plummer responded: “Quite frankly, I'm not a scientist. What I'm doing is I'm looking at the world and we're living the the effects of the climate crisis today.

“Right now, people are dying, children are starving. Families are fleeing their homes, and it's preventable. We have the solution."

Rees-Mogg pointed out that cheap energy has extended life expectancy across the world by giving people the ability to control temperatures through air conditioning and heating.

Plummer responded: “Do you know what's essential in keeping our food supply? Tackling the climate crisis. This year we lost a third of our wheat crops, half of our potato crops, and it's only going to get worse.

“We're heading to a future where people are going to be fighting over the last loaves of bread at Lidl.”

Watch Jacob Rees-Mogg’s State of the Nation Monday to Thursday from 8pm.
