GB News presenter Michael Portillo has blasted any damage done to the Cenotaph

Michael Portillo has demanded the Cenotaph be defended from any graffiti or acts of destruction on Armistice Day.

Speaking to Camilla Tominey on her GB News show, he said: "At the very least if the March goes ahead, at the very least the cenotaph and parts of Whitehall, I think will have to be defended.

"And I'm afraid I can already see the kinds of scenes that we may witness next week.

"Even if permission is not given, it doesn't mean that thousands of people won't descend anyway.

"What it what it would mean is that the reaction of the police to those people turning up would be different if the march had not been authorized.

"But I mean, any of us can see the possibility that the cenotaph would be a target and and that will have to be defended.

"And I think, you know, one way or another they're going to be ugly scenes. I think British people are going to be very upset. You know, to see the King go there on the Sunday if if there's been mayhem, in Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square, either end of Whitehall, it's going to be very upsetting."
