The President of Argentina is “just banging the same old drum” with a new threat to re-take the Falkland Islands before the end of his term in office, according to war hero Simon Weston.
The Falklands War veteran told GB News: “It just strikes me that he's just banging the same old drum that they've all been for 42 years.
“He can't do anything militarily. He's not Superman, he is just an ordinary guy who's come from complete left field in Argentinian politics.
“He is a maverick, but then again apparently he consults a psychic who talks to his dead dog to get some decisions made.”
In a discussion with Tom Harwood and Emily Carver, he added: “This guy has no military to talk about. Most of that navy is still where it was left 42 years ago, on the bottom of the sea.
“His air force is depleted. From what I know, from being down there last year, they’ve only got four serviceable fighter aircraft.
“Their army is depleted…these people have never invested since 1982. They've never invested in their military because they didn't want to have a junta again.”
He added: “They make lots of noises and have lots of rhetoric. But at the end of the day, the people of the islands are a sovereign nation of their own.
“They have created their own country, they have their own currency, and they have chosen under whose flag and laws they wish to exist under, and as long as they want that, then we must protect that.”
