Shadow Paymaster General Jonathan Ashworth has criticised the idea of cutting Universal Credit, saying the Government has failed in increasing it with inflation.
Speaking on GB News, Ashworth joined Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster to assess the prospect of further cuts.
He criticised the idea of people living the 'life of Riley' while on Universal Credit, insisting "it really isn't".
"I don't think you should cut Universal Credit", he said.
"The Government already have cut it, they took £20 off it and they didn't uplift it in line with inflation last year.
"It's a very low level of benefit. People think it's a life of Riley claiming Universal Credit, it really isn't.
"You've got to give people proper support."
