Many apps run silently in the background on your phone

iPhone users have been warned about two apps which should be deleted to save smartphone battery, according to a tech expert.

Scrapping the two apps which "drain" smartphones could help Britons save "hours" of battery.

As many apps run silently in the background on a smartphone, they continue to drain the battery when users may not realise it.

This could even be happening even when the device is not in use very much.

The apps which are using majority of the power can be found in a phone's settings and can be altered so they aren’t automatically refreshing in the background.

One tech expert has revealed the two apps which could be draining an iPhone’s battery.

Zeeshan Arif, founder and CEO of software company Whizpool, told She Finds that removing two apps could help.

According to Arif, the first which should go is the fitness app Fitbit, which he said would save “hours of battery life”.

He added: “The app is great for tracking your fitness and your sleep, but it’s also a huge battery hog.

“If you have a new iPhone, deleting this app will save you hours of battery life.”

The second app on the to-go list is Skype, Arif says.

The app once led the video call market, but at the beginning of lockdown Skype found itself outpaced by the likes of Zoom.

He said: “If you want to preserve your phone’s power as much as possible, don’t use Skype.”

Instead he recommended alternative video calling apps.
