An aesthetic doctor shared how women can shave a decade off their age with a key product most people have at home

Women can take 10 years off their faces by using key skin care products, according to an expert.

Although ageing is inevitable, SPF visibly reduces the physical signs of getting older - it's "essential".

While the right makeup routine can have the same effect, making you look 10 years younger in 10 minutes, investing in an anti-ageing skin care routine has long-term benefits.

Aesthetic doctor and medical director of Aesthetica Medical Clinic Dr Saniyya Mahmood shared an "essential skin care product that can help you look younger".

The expert urged mature women to invest in SPF - and not just for holidays or the odd sunny day in the UK.

The doctor called it "an absolute must for every single person, every single day".

She said: "Sunscreen is by far the most important skin care product to maintain long term skin health. It is essential in preventing signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots and pigmentation.

"A broad spectrum sunscreen is recommended (at least factor 50) to be used every single day come summer or winter.

"Not only does it prevent premature ageing, it also protects your skin from harmful UV rays that can cause skin cancer."

In addition to SPF, women should try out some home remedies known for their anti-ageing effects.

The doctor said: "Vitamin C plays a major role in the production of collagen so eating fruits and vegetables will help your body boost collagen levels. I recommend citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits. Tomatoes, red and green peppers, and dark green vegetables such as broccoli, kale and Brussels sprouts are also fantastic for boosting collagen.

"One of my favourite collagen–boosters is bone broth. Bone broth like beef, chicken or fish can be drunk straight up or used in other dishes like soups and stews," the expert added.

For plant-based ladies who want to look younger, herbal teas can also do the trick.

The doctor stated: "Hibiscus tea contributes to healthy skin and collagen production. Hibiscus tea is packed with Vitamin C which plays a huge role in the formation of collagen. It can be a great and affordable addition to your daily collagen-boost routine.

"Green tea is another great herbal tea full of benefits. Drinking green tea can help make our skin tighter and can help maintain collagen levels."

She recommended Matcha green tea especially, as it has "three times more antioxidants than other teas and therefore has the most beneficial effect on our body’s collagen production and maintenance".

The expert concluded: "Aloe vera can also help. Aloe contributes to the growth of cells, hydrates our skin and can make wrinkles appear less visible. You can use a cream, gel or an oral supplement but always ask your GP for advice first."
