Meat and vegetable pies sold across the UK have been incorrectly labelled

Four major UK supermarket chains have issued an urgent recall for multiple varieties of Pieminister savoury pies after a labelling error showed the wrong year on use-by dates.

Britons who shop at Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, and Waitrose should check their kitchens for the affected items.

This follows a warning by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which confirmed the affected pies were incorrectly labelled with a use-by date of June 24, 2026, when the correct date should read June 24, 2025.

"The products are therefore not safe to eat beyond their intended use-by date of June 24 this year," officials explained.

While the products remain safe to consume until tomorrow's actual expiry date, retailers have moved swiftly to alert customers about the printing mistake on the packaging.

The recall encompasses a wide range of pie varieties across the affected retailers.

Tesco confirmed that five different pies are impacted, stating: "Pieminister Kitchens is recalling a selection of pies which were labelled with the incorrect use by date of 24/06/26, instead of the correct use by date of 24/06/25. The pies are safe to eat until 24/06/25."

At Tesco, the affected products include Moo Pie, Moo & Blue Pie, Free Ranger Pie, Wild Shroom Pie, and Kate & Sidney Steak, Kidney & Craft Ale Pie, all in 270g sizes.

Asda has recalled three varieties, whilst Morrisons has identified two affected products.

Waitrose issued the most extensive list, with nine different Pieminister products requiring recall.

Customers who have purchased the incorrectly labelled products can obtain full refunds without needing to provide receipts.

All four supermarket chains confirmed that affected items can be returned directly to any of their stores for a complete refund.

Alternatively, shoppers can contact Pieminister Kitchens directly. The company has provided dedicated customer service channels, with refunds available by emailing hello@pieminister.co.uk or calling 0117 942 3300.

For customers requiring additional information, each retailer has established dedicated helplines. Tesco customers can call 0800 505 555, whilst Asda shoppers should contact 0800 952 010.

With the actual expiry date of June 24, 2025, approaching tomorrow, customers are advised to check any recently purchased Pieminister pies for the mislabelled date showing 2026 and take appropriate action if they wish to return the products.

Food and product recalls must always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety.

The FSA explained: "If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).

"The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers."
