The Cathedral City Cheese and Heinz Beanz toastie will be available from April 8

Iceland shoppers were excited to hear about the supermarket's latest cheesy bean concoction, the Cathedral City Cheese and Heinz Beanz toastie, with Britons flocking to social media to praise the new product.

However, several Britons were flabbergasted that people would pay for a snack that they could make so easily at home.

Under Iceland Foods' official Instagram post launching the toastie, one customer asked: "Why? I'm sure the great British public can manage to knock a toastie together, we're not that daft. April fool?????"

Another Iceland shopper seconded this: "Jesus, who can't toast bread, put beans and cheese on nowadays?"

Several social media users were left wondering why Iceland chose to launch the product, and questioned why Britons would part with their money for it.

On Facebook, one disgruntled shopper argued: "For the price of one you could buy a loaf of bread, a tin of cheap beans and a small block of cheese."

Another said that it's "quicker and cheaper to go into the kitchen and make one from scratch. Seriously have we degraded to this level, that we can't make a simple toasted sandwich for ourselves?"

One more said: "The fact that people will actually buy this is crazy. It’s just a cheese and bean toastie - make it yourself."

A third added: "People that lazy that they can't actually make this themselves?" "Jesus, make that yourself for a fraction of the cost," another chimed in.

"Who buys a toastie already made?" asked one customer. "Surely it's cheaper to make it yourself? Less faff."

Another said: "Oh yes, because bread, beans and cheese are so hard to come by."

But while some branded the new snack nonsense, others were thrilled to see it on Iceland shelves.

On Instagram, one cheese and bean toastie fan said: "This is a need!!" Another said: "Groovy breakfast snack coming up for me."

One Iceland shopper couldn't wait to get their hands on it. She said: "I will get this next time I do our big shop."

Another Iceland customer tagged her loved ones in the comments, stating: "This has got me all over it."

One customer defended the supermarket's decision to stock the toastie. He said: "I get your point, but cooking for one (especially treat food) is actually really difficult.

"I don't eat bread most of the time but occasionally would have one of these. I'm not going to buy a loaf, a block of cheese, and a tin of beans for one meal."

In other food news, Nestlé fans were outraged when they realised that two popular sweets had been axed.

Iceland's Cathedral City Cheese and Heinz Beanz toastie will be available at Iceland Foods and The Food Warehouse from April 8, 2024.
