FNM Bakery Limited has issued an urgent recall affecting 18 different bread products from its First National Bakery range following concerns about possible rodent contamination at the company's production facility.

The Food Standards Agency published the alert warning consumers across England that the items may pose a health risk and should not be consumed.

The recall encompasses a wide variety of baked goods, from traditional loaves to speciality Caribbean breads, all manufactured at the same site where the contamination issue was identified.

Shoppers who have purchased any of the affected items are being urged to take immediate action.

The affected products include Bulla Bread, Coco Bread, Shilling (Small Bread), and Corn Bread, alongside various square loaves in both sliced and unsliced formats.

Mongoose, Twist, and Wing varieties are also covered by the recall, each in 1kg packs bearing batch code 62a.

The company's bun range has been included too, with Large Bun, Medium Bun, and Bun Cob products all subject to the safety notice.

Wholemeal bread in both sliced and unsliced versions, plus Hi Top loaves, complete the list of recalled items.

Best before dates range from April 27 to May 5 2026, with batch codes varying between 56c and 62d depending on the product.

Consumers who have purchased any of these products are strongly advised against eating them under any circumstances.

Instead, customers should return the items to the retailer where they purchased them to receive a full refund.

Those seeking additional information about the recall can contact the bakery directly via email at Caribbean.bakers@yahoo.com.

Alternatively, concerned shoppers may telephone the company on 0121 553 5117 for further guidance.

Retail outlets stocking the affected products will display point-of-sale notices explaining the situation and outlining the steps customers should follow.

This recall follows just days after Tesco was forced to withdraw its Finest Summer Edition Chocolate Affogato Dessert from sale due to fears it may contain plastic fragments.

The frozen dessert, sold in 538g packs with best-before dates extending to April 2027, should be returned to any Tesco branch for a full refund without requiring a receipt.

The Food Standards Agency issues Product Recall Information Notices to alert both the public and local authorities when food safety concerns arise.

A recall represents a more serious intervention than a simple withdrawal, actively requesting customers to return potentially dangerous products.
