The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued an urgent warning about HOPEXY 600 LED String Lights purchased through Amazon, flagging them as a serious fire hazard.
The warning comes after it was discovered that the plug on the lights doesn't meet BS 1363 standards, which is the British safety benchmark for electrical plugs.
This means the plug simply can't form a proper connection with wall sockets, creating a dangerous situation for anyone who's bought them.
The OPSS has classified this as a 'high-risk' product, stressing that shoppers need to take this alert seriously.

The faulty plug could arc or spark during use

The problem is that the faulty plug could arc or spark during use, which could easily start a fire in your home.
What makes this even more concerning is that these string lights are actually marketed as suitable for outdoor use.
However, the instructions don't properly warn buyers that the adaptor must be kept away from moisture and rainwater.
The product fails to comply with both the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations and the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.
So not only is there a fire risk indoors, but using these lights outside as advertised could make things even worse.
Authorities have already stepped in to stop more of these lights reaching British homes, with the import being blocked at the border.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Amazon has also pulled the listing from its marketplace, so you won't find them for sale there anymore.
If you've already got a set of these lights at home, the retailer advises that you stop using them straight away.
The OPSS recommends getting in touch with the distributor to seek redress for your purchase.
For anyone trying to identify whether they've got this product, here are the key details to check.
The lights are made by HOPEXY, with the model number NYA0600M and power supply model XNE-UK310060T01.
The Amazon ASIN is B0F5B9RC5L, and the barcode reads X002A9PFBB. The product comes from China and consists of LED string lights with a battery-operated remote control and a wall plug.
If any of these details match your purchase, please act immediately.
This latest alert follows two other Amazon product recalls announced by the OPSS on December 24, both involving items from China that pose serious risks.

Anyone in possession of the products is urged to act immediately

The Enjoy & Love Kids Trampoline with Safety Net 55" was flagged for multiple safety failings, including poor visibility at the entry point and an enclosure that doesn't meet minimum height requirements, putting children at risk of injury.
Meanwhile, A4R Water Beads were pulled due to a severe choking hazard for young children, as the gel beads can block airways if swallowed when expanded.
Amazon removed both listings following the warnings.
