Gillian Anderson has always been adamant she would not revive her role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully – but after a recent update from director Ryan Coogler, it seems she may have changed her mind.
The original series ran from 1992 to 2002, before it was revived for two seasons back in 2016 to 2018 – two feature spin-off films were also created in 1998 and 2008.
For 11 seasons, Scully and FBI Special Agent Mulder (played by David Duchovny) investigated cases involving the paranormal.
Discussing whether she would consider returning to the series, Anderson revealed: “It’s so funny because for most of my life, since I have finished The X-Files, every interview I do, people have asked.
“And the answer has always been, ‘Nope, not going to happen, not going to happen’. Now, Ryan Coogler, who is the director of Black Panther — brilliant, brilliant director.
“[He] has approached Chris Carter to say that he wants to do a take on it, and I cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen.”

After branding Carter a “genius” she added that there is a chance that the reboot will happen and said: “Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing.
“I’m not saying no. I think he’s really cool and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well. And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something something.”
For the time being, Anderson’s attention is focused on the upcoming premiere of the highly anticipated Netflix movie Scoop.
The film is based on the trust events leading up to Prince Andrew’s explosive 2019 BBC Newsnight interview.
Gillian Anderson portrays Emily Maitlis in the new Netflix film Scoop

Anderson portrays Emily Maitlis after all eyes were turned on her as she grilled the royal – who’s played by Rufus Sewell – about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
During her research of the interview, Anderson was forced to watch hours of Newsnight footage of Maitlis in order to perfect her mannerisms and idiosyncrasies – after the former BBC presenter declined to meet.
Discussing how she studied Maitlis, Anderson recalled: “There were so many things to get wrong. Emily is so formidable and she’s still alive. When I told them my fears, they said, ‘That’s exactly why you should do it’.”
She added that she thought Maitlis was “placed on a pedestal, to a degree. A pedestal I think she deserved to be placed on.

“And you get a sense of that from how they talk about her. She’s their secret weapon, right? That interview is a bloody series. Emily is there for one reason and one reason only.
“She is going to do everything in her power to make sure the hard questions are asked…. The questions everybody else has been scared to ask.”
