Sarah Phillimore has called the public reaction to the allegations against Russell Brand 'frightening', as she discussed the allegations currently surrounding the British comedian.

Speaking to Andrew Doyle on Free Speech Nation, the Barrister and Co-Founder of Fair Cop hit out at the social media reaction and cancel culture surrounding the star.

Andrew Doyle asked: "What did you make of that letter?"

Phillimore replied: "I, along with a lot of other people, thought it was appalling. I thought it was state overreach and interference. I then went on to have some very interesting conversations with people on social media going, ohh, don't be silly, an MP is not an agent of the state really. You know, it was just a casual inquiry, you know, having a little chat.

"And I said, look, it's on paper with the portcullis. It says from the UK Parliament. I mean Rumble certainly thought it was a missive from the state of course. And it wasn't just Rumble was it? It was YouTube, it was Facebook, it was GB News, it was everybody. It went everywhere."

Phillimore continued: "It's just so frightening. It's not just that people are content for this to happen, they're actively cheerleading for it. And that's where I just begin to feel very, very frightened because OK, it's fine when it's somebody you don't like, but what happens if it's your brother, your husband, your your father?

"I don't for a moment doubt that women feel like 'there's no point in taking this to the police, it will drag on for years. I'm going to be treated like crap. I'm going to have to hand over my phone my entire digital history of field'. That's true.

"But that doesn't mean that what people are advocating for now is good, because what they're advocating for now will hurt each and every one of us. Any one of us could be the victim of a malicious or false accusation."
