BBC EastEnders and ITV Coronation Street legend dies as friends and colleagues pay tribute to 'fun' and 'witty' star

Peter Rose, the acclaimed television director whose work shaped some of Britain's most beloved soap operas, has died.
Mr Rose died on Saturday, January 17, with the news being confirmed through social media tributes from close friends and former colleagues.
Mr Rose built an impressive career spanning decades behind the camera on the nation's flagship continuing dramas.
His directorial credits encompassed Coronation Street, EastEnders, and Emmerdale, where he remained active until last year.

Mr Rose's contribution to British television extended beyond the major soaps, with earlier work including the popular 1980s drama Howards' Way, as well as Brookside, Family Affairs, and Crossroads.
Throughout his career, Mr Rose helmed 111 instalments of Coronation Street between 2011 and 2024, whilst his tenure at EastEnders saw him direct 126 episodes from 2003 to 2010.
His work on Emmerdale continued right up until recently, with his final episode broadcast on January 1, 2025.
Mr Rose earned industry recognition for his direction of one of Coronation Street's most memorable sequences.

Peter Rose's friend Harry Duffin paid tribute on Facebook
|The October 2014 scene featuring Deirdre Barlow hurling a trifle at the wall during a heated dinner party secured him a Scene of the Year nomination at the 2015 British Soap Awards.
Screenwriter and author Harry Duffin announced his friend's death in a Facebook post, sharing a photograph of Mr Rose by the seaside.
"It is very sad to say that a great friend of ours, Peter Rose has died last weekend," he wrote.
Mr Duffin recalled their professional relationship beginning on Howards' Way during the 1980s, where Mr Rose worked as director whilst Mr Duffin served as script editor.

"He was a lovely man, and Chris and I will miss him very much," Mr Duffin added, noting that despite relocating from London, the pair maintained their friendship and met regularly.
Mr Rose and his partner, Mick Cawson, had holidayed at Mr Duffin's Spanish villa.
Writer Kathryn Davies shared her own tribute on Instagram, posting footage of Mr Rose enjoying a meal.
"RIP Peter Rose, Director, Howards End, Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale. So sudden. Happy we did lunch in December, nobody to tell me off now! Bless you," she wrote.
Former colleagues responded to Mr Duffin's announcement with their own memories of the director. Marcus DF White commented: "I am so upset to hear this news. Peter was such a lovely man. We had so much fun co-casting Howards Way together."
Another friend described him as "always fun and so witty," whilst others expressed shock at the unexpected loss.
