The documentary maker has taken to Instagram with a new update for his fans

Louis Theroux first addressed the possibility he'd developed alopecia in January this year.

After spotting patches in his beard and uneven growth, Theroux shared his suspicions with his Instagram followers.

Now, in his latest update, Theroux has revealed the condition has started to affect the hair on his head.

He also debuted a "sparse white beard" as he darted a stare right down the camera.

Theroux wrote alongside the photo: "Alopecia update (try to remain calm!): new bald patches are appearing in my “top hair” (the hair on top of my head).

"BUT I can now grow a weird straggly and rather sparse white beard. So that’s something.

"And there are some tiny patches of regrowth on my eyebrow," he continued before delving into the things he's taking to try to remedy the effects,

He continued: "FWIW I’ve been taking vitamin D, iron, and something called biotin.

"Is it helping? Who knows?" Theroux continued as fans and famous faces soon rushed to comment on the star's latest update.

The Only Way is Essex and Dancing on Ice star Gemma Collins replied: "Still gorgeous Louis."

While actor Johnny Knoxville commented: "I’ve had that before. My barber found a bald spot in the back of my head about the size of a half-dollar coin.

"It was as smooth as glass. My dermatologist injected a corticosteroid into my scalp and it slowly grew back. Good luck."

Meanwhile, comedian Zoe Lyons reflected: "Hey Louis ...I've been taking Biotin for my AA for the last year and I do think it helps.

"I had 85% hair loss...now down to about 20% and I can hide it completely with my new now curly hair that has regrown! Zx."

While TV personality Gail Porter weighed in: "With of without hair… you’re wonderful x."

Theroux's most recent post comes just weeks after he revealed the alopecia had "migrated" up to his eyebrow.

Sharing another selfie at the time, Theroux revealed: "Oh jeez it looks like the alopecia has migrated up to my eyebrow.

"I realise you aren’t all awaiting every update on its progress but I want people to acclimatise to the new partially depilated me and not freak everyone out by suddenly appearing in public like a half-plucked elephant bird with no forewarning.

"So this is where we’re at. I’d really like to keep my eyebrows, but it’s out of my hands at this point… tho I have started taking vitamin d and something called biotin." (sic)

When it comes to his work projects, Theroux revealed earlier this week his plans to work on a feature-length documentary on Anna Stubblefield.

The doc is expected to explore the controversial affair between Stubbleman, a married female professor, and a non-verbal black man with cerebral palsy.

The case led to one of the most divisive criminal trials of the 21st century and will be backed by Sky and Theroux's Mindhouse Productions.
