The 33-year-old Strictly Come Dancing star was diagnosed with cancer in May

An emotional Amy Dowden has shared a clip from her hospital ward after completing her final round of chemotherapy amid her breast cancer battle.

The Strictly star broke down in tears as she embraced the staff at the Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham as well as her friends and family before ringing the bell to mark the end of her treatment.

Dowden, who's been branded "amazing" and an "inspiration" by many as she raises awareness for breast cancer during her own battle, first found a lump on her breast in April before being diagnosed in May.

She's since undergone a mastectomy, fertility treatment and chemotherapy, although she's been vocal in admitting that the latter was the "toughest" part of her journey.

Now she's been able to ring the bell, Dowden wrote alongside the touching video: "I rang the bell... and I’m so thankful I got too!

"My toughest journey yet! These past few months I look back and think how did my body get through this both physically and mentally.

"From the words I’m so sorry Amy, it’s cancer and what’s your fertility plans. To having a mastectomy, two weeks later hormone daily injections for egg retrieval, a little Crohns flare up and then on to chemo plus shutting down my ovaries on the same day which sadly lead to sepsis, blood clots, losing my hair, my eyebrows, lashes (I have a few hanging in there) and three toe nails."

Dowden also touched upon how her diagnosis forced to pull out of this year's Strictly: "But also it’s taken away my love of life these past few months and of course my DANCING!"

She continued by admitting she was "eternally grateful" that her chemo treatment has "hopefully now given me chance of more life" before saying: "I’ll never be the same Amy again but, what I do know is I’m so much stronger than I ever knew and I have made the most amazing friends along the way."

Dowden went on to thank the staff at the hospital as well as her supportive friends and family in the caption.

While a major stepping stone in her battle with the illness - which she recently revealed could last five years - Dowden was realistic that her journey "isn't over yet".

However, "this day of ringing the chemo bell felt like an endless distance away and at points I thought I’d never make it to. I’m so proud of myself".

The Strictly star signed off by revealing she would await the results of an MRI scan to see she requires any more surgery.

A number of Dowden's fans rushed to congratulate the dancer - including several of her fellow Strictly co-stars.
