As temperatures plummet and the days draw shorter, it may be surprising to learn British coastal escapes are top of the list for UK travellers this season.
New data from Independent Cottages found seaside bookings stay strong throughout winter, with the East of England and Wales proving the top picks between November and January.
It analysed the top 20 destinations to find parts of Wales dominate the top five list, with Caldicot, Monmouthshire coming in the number one spot.

The charming coastal area of Caldicot saw winter break enquiries rise by a staggering 3,300 per cent year-on-year. The experts said: "The River Severn’s tidal range creates dramatic views, while the nearby beaches at Sudbrook and Black Rock are ideal gathering points for locals taking part in New Year’s sea dips. Visitors can follow suit, then warm up in one of Monmouthshire’s many historic inns.

"It’s a perfect area for walking too, with crisp winter trails along the Wye Valley and plenty of scenic pit stops for hot chocolate or Sunday roasts."
Next up was England's top pick - Milden in Suffolk. Bookings spiked 2,260 per cent on last year, showing Britons' strong desire for a quiet coastline trip this winter.
The travel pros added: "You’ll find windswept beaches, excellent seafood restaurants, and easy access to the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty."
It's a great pick for families too - the "mix of rustic cottages and modern barn conversions makes it a go-to for families or groups after a peaceful break near the sea".

Holidaymakers hoping to visit Scotland should consider 3. Glendaruel, Argyll and Bute. Searches have risen by 1,200 per cent, reflecting the growing popularity.
The remote part of Scotland has a "unique combination of seclusion, dramatic landscapes, and close proximity to Loch Fyne", allowing brave travellers to enjoy a winter dip.
Immerse yourself in history and natural beauty by enjoying the scenic walking trails. The Cowal Peninsula and small fishing villages, like Inverary, are particular highlights.
