A travel expert has highlighted five walks across the UK

Venturing out to explore the UK in winter is a completely different experience from during the other seasons, with sights of frosty fields and moody landscapes.

Speaking to GB News, a travel pro has shared how to make the most of your next stroll, offering recommendations across all parts of the UK.

Britons can embrace the beauty of the country, whether they choose a route in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland or Wales, and CEO of Riderly, Carlos Nasillo, has highlighted his top picks.

He said: "Winter walking trails in the UK showcase a completely different side of landscapes that summer crowds obscure – crisp air, dramatic light, and the satisfaction of having iconic trails nearly to yourself."

For Scotland, the most dramatic views can be discovered in the Highlands or in the southeast of the country.

These quieter parts of the country are known for having views of impressive mountains and peaceful waters.

Nasillo said: "In December, Scotland's West Highland Way transitions into winter, and the snow-dusted peaks and winter light that fascinate photographers become clear to the naked eye.

"In the southeast, near Loch Lomond, there are trees blanketed in ice looking like deserts. Please wear the proper winter equipment, as conditions can turn bad very quickly."

In England, consider visiting the Lake District. Here, holidaymakers will find plenty of incredible walking routes that cater to all abilities. If visiting Wales, head to the southwest for Pembrokeshire.

Here, you can enjoy a peaceful coastal walk by the sea, or discover its history at Carew Castle. The expert added: "The Catbells walk (in England) gives you spectacular views over Derwentwater but is slightly easier than a technically higher peak.

"The storms of winter in December are both a natural symphony along the Pembrokeshire coast of Wales."

Finally, keen walkers looking to explore Northern Ireland should consider visiting the Giant's Causeway. Here, there is a two-day walking route that passes secluded beaches and dramatic cliffs, although there are shorter paths for a less intense jaunt.

Nasillo continued: "For effective winter walking in the United Kingdom, it's important to make good use of the short daylight hours, of seven to eight hours.

"Taking care over swift changes in weather, seeking waterproof layers and starting early make winter trails a pleasant contrast to summer landscapes. Many overlook England's trails these days in favour of distant places."

If looking for more atmospheric walk options, a photographer recommended five routes that are perfect for this time of year.
