According to new data, nearly two-thirds of UK travellers are planning multiple shorter trips this year, while domestic hotel searches are up 13 per cent compared with last summer.
For holidaymakers looking to get more for their money, Britain’s seaside towns and vibrant cities are proving hard to ignore. Blackpool tops the list of the UK’s most affordable summer destinations, with average hotel rates coming in at just £62 per night, according to KAYAK's new Summer Savings report.
The Lancashire resort remains one of the country’s classic seaside escapes, offering a mix of nostalgia and family-friendly attractions. Visitors can stroll along the famous Golden Mile, enjoy panoramic views from Blackpool Tower, or spend an afternoon at the Pleasure Beach.

Beyond Blackpool, Birmingham and Manchester are also proving popular for affordable summer breaks.
Birmingham, where average nightly hotel rates sit around £85, offers canal-side dining, shopping at the Bullring and a thriving cultural scene.
Manchester, alongside Liverpool, both averaging around £105 per night, appeals to travellers seeking music, nightlife and sporting attractions. Scarborough also makes the list, with Yorkshire’s coastal town averaging £112 per night during the summer.
While staycations are proving more and more popular, there are still bargains to be found overseas. Holidaymakers can get the best deals if they are willing to be flexible, according to the data. It shows international return flights drop sharply in price towards the end of the summer season.

Birmingham is a good, affordable city break

Average fares during the week commencing September 7 sit at around £209, compared with almost £700 during the peak July getaway period. Late August and early September could be the sweet spot for Britons hoping to avoid school holiday price spikes.
KAYAK UK travel expert, Rachel Mumford, said: “Airfares are especially unpredictable this summer, with prices shifting quickly, but that shouldn't put Brits off. Our data shows there are still great deals to be found, particularly for those with flexibility on destinations and dates.
