Gazing out the window of a train is a cheat code for discovering parts of the UK that are otherwise impossible to get to, but not all routes are created equal.
If you want to make the most out of your next slow travel adventure, three train journeys have been highlighted as Britain's must-visit routes.
Speaking to GB News, founder & CEO of travel platform tickadoo, Francis Hellyer, recommended the West Highland Line, the Settle to Carlisle Railway and the St Ives Bay Line.
The West Highland Line has unmissable views of the Scottish landscape, which often lands it on lists of the best train routes in the country.

The West Highland Way train route is one of the UK's most scenic journeys
| GETTYStarting in Glasgow, it runs north to Crianlarich and offers the chance to see remote and mountainous parts of the country.
Hellyer said: "Wild, empty, beautiful. The Glenfinnan Viaduct is, of course, famous from Harry Potter, but honestly, the entire route is cinematic. And yes, they really do sell haggis toasties in the buffet car."
In England, the Settle to Carlisle line stretches more than 70 miles across the north of the country along a picturesque route. Expect to see the dramatic Yorkshire Dales and iconic moorland views, as well as tunnels, viaducts and charming stations.

See the "Ribblehead Viaduct half-lost in mist and Yorkshire Dales rolling away forever - Northern England at its finest".
Further south and Britons will find the St Ives Bay Line in Cornwall. Cornwall is one of the most popular staycation destinations in the UK thanks to its sandy beaches and charming walking trails.
The line takes just 10 minutes, but gives holidaymakers the chance to spot some of the best views the area has to offer. Hellyer explained: "Ridiculously short. Ridiculously beautiful. That moment you round the bend and see the beach curve below, you know you're arriving somewhere special."

The St Ives Bay Line is short, but offers incredible views
| VISIT CORNWALLFor those looking to add more rail routes to their bucket list, Hellyer suggested some of Europe's most beautiful train journeys. Expect panoramic views and breathtaking landscapes in three options that stand out as must-dos for UK tourists.
The travel expert highlighted the Bernina Express, between Switzerland and Italy, Flåm Railway in Norway and the Cinque Terre Local Line in Italy.
Speaking of the Italian route, he said: "Skip the tourist trains and take the rattly local one through all five villages. Windows down on older carriages, sea air drifting through, Italian life happening at every tiny station. Pure joy."
