Montenegro pairs scenic coastlines and historical towns with dramatic mountains and other natural landscapes. It is often less crowded than its neighbour, Croatia, making it the perfect option for a beach break.

The medieval villages provide the perfect backdrop for a day spent exploring, and the area has a growing luxury hospitality sector, making it perfect for a truly indulgent holiday.

This was followed by Morocco. This is a winter sun staple where holidaymakers can enjoy a relatively affordable yet opulent break.

Popular tourist destinations include the beach destination, Agadir, and Marrakesh, where holidaymakers can take in the culture while exploring the bustling markets in its ancient medina.

Further-flung countries also made the list, including Thailand, Antarctica, Saudi Arabia and more.

Virtuoso's report found affluent holidaymakers are looking for adventure on their luxury holidays, and not just five-star hotels. It named Greece as the current most popular destination to go to for this experience.

This was followed by Japan, Italy, the Maldives, South Africa and Croatia, giving Britons even more inspiration for a luxury trip abroad.
