Spain airports announce major change that will affect how British tourists go through security

Britons flying to specific airports in Spain may find that the process is easier and speedier in 2024.
Three major airports in the sunny holiday hotspot will be installing new technology at security. The new technology will mean that holidaymakers do not have to remove their liquids and electronics from their hand luggage for scanning.
The equipment, courtesy of airport operator Aena, will launch at the country’s busiest airports this year.
Visitors to Spain's capital Madrid, as well as popular tourist destinations Barcelona and Palma, will benefit from this major change. It will be rolled out at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat and Palma de Mallorca.

Airport security can be a rather stressful experience, especially at busy airports during peak travel times.
This new initiative may speed up the process for travellers keen to get through security quickly.
Dates for the change have not been announced but the new scanners are set to be rolled out in Madrid, Barcelona and Palma in 2024. This is part of a global project to upgrade security filters.
The launch of this project will begin at the airports with the highest volume of passengers.
Until an airport has announced the change, holidaymakers must still take out all liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) from their hand luggage to go through security.
Those travelling by plane will be used in the typical practice of placing LAGs in individual plastic see-through bags.
Aena said that they will have invested €1.1billion (around £877million) in airport security check systems in the decade leading up to 2028.
The change will benefit British tourists who flock to Spain in their masses throughout the year.

Britons will also be happy to know that Aldi will be launching nearly 50 new stores in Spain in 2024.
This will be a win for expats and tourists alike, as well as Spanish residents looking to shop at a cost-conscious supermarket.
The change to Spanish airports also comes as Jet2 launched new routes to Spain - and other popular holiday destinations - from Manchester Airport.
There will be extra services to Alicante on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from May 26 to October 31.
