British holidaymakers have shared their dream destinations for a remote break this winter

A quarter of Britons would love to vanish from the festive madness this year. New research shows they are dreaming of going completely off-grid during Christmas.

More than half say their perfect holiday would be peaceful and relaxing. Around a third want to slow down and reconnect with nature instead.

Many people are looking for the chance to recharge and spend time with just a few close family members, but nearly a third feel they can't actually do it because they don't want to let their families down. The pressure to stick with traditions keeps them from escaping, according to Booking.com research.

People are searching for something different this year. They want holidays that bring them closer to nature, with two in five saying that's exactly why they would travel.

Quieter activities are becoming really popular. Two-thirds would love to try fishing or birdwatching on their trips. Nearly as many fancy staying somewhere they can forage for their own meals in the local countryside.

The numbers show Britons are definitely planning getaways this Christmas. Searches for UK festive breaks have jumped by nearly 20 per cent. International holiday searches are up even more - by almost a third compared to last year.

Here's what Britons really want when they dream of escaping Christmas. Top of the list? A private Caribbean island all to themselves.

The Scottish Highlands come second, with people loving the idea of a cosy homestay far from the crowds. Small island hideaways in the Maldives and festive homestays in the Cotswolds also made the cut.

Rounding out the top 10 is a cabin on an uninhabited Scottish island - perfect for those who really want to disappear.

Booking.com has created something for those wanting to escape - a Silent Night stay on the Isle of Skye. You can only reach it by boat, making it properly remote.

The stay sits on the quiet shores of Isleornsay with stunning views across Loch Hourn and Knoydart. It's got four bedrooms, a wood-burning stove, and even a roll-top bath overlooking the sea.

Guests can try "hushed hobbies" like birdwatching, seaweed foraging, sound baths and wild swimming. They'll also get a serenity kit with a journal, sand timer, puzzle and locally-scented candle to help them properly switch off.
