Holidaymakers can book onto the flights departing from May 2026

Canadian carrier WestJet will make its comeback to Glasgow Airport next year, launching direct flights to Toronto from May 15, 2026. The airline has also announced a completely new route, travelling from Toronto to Cardiff.

The airline plans to run four weekly services between Glasgow and Toronto Pearson International Airport, deploying its Boeing 737 MAX fleet for the transatlantic route.

This marks WestJet's first operations at Glasgow in four years, having last served the Scottish airport in 2022. The Canadian airline initially began flying from Glasgow in 2015, making it the first UK airport in WestJet's network.

The new service will connect Scotland's largest city with North America's fifth-largest urban centre. The Cardiff route is brand new and will run four times a week. The first flights will depart on May 22, 2026.

The Scotland-Canada connection runs deep, with roughly 4.8 million Canadians tracing their roots back to Scottish heritage. Canadian visitors pumped £135million into Scotland's economy in 2024, making Canada one of the nation's biggest international tourism markets.

The restored Glasgow-Toronto link will strengthen these historic and cultural bonds between the two nations. WestJet's service will offer passengers onward connections throughout Canada via the airline's Toronto hub network.

Chief commercial officer at AGS Airports, Matt Hazlewood, said: “We are thrilled to welcome WestJet back to Glasgow Airport with its direct Toronto service. Glasgow Airport has a close affinity with WestJet, due to the fact it was the first UK airport the airline ever operated from when it first touched down back in 2015.

“The airline’s decision to re-establish this route highlights its confidence in the Glasgow market and demonstrates the strong demand that clearly exists from both leisure and business passengers for transatlantic connectivity.

"It also underlines our commitment to delivering key routes and services for our passengers and with Glasgow playing host to the Commonwealth Games next year, the timing of this announcement couldn’t be better.”

WestJet chief executive officer, Alex von Hoenbroech, added: “Bolstered by our growing fleet of MAX aircraft, WestJet is pleased to deliver a suite of new global destinations that are uniquely suited to our strategy.

"The MAX’s long-haul range can connect Eastern Canada to rich cultural destinations that guests want to travel to, and we are proud to be the airline that takes them there.

“Toronto Pearson International airport serves as a natural connector for international travel, and we look forward to the two-way travel opportunities that will come from one of WestJet’s biggest investments in the region.”
