Combined with estimated living costs of around £623 per month, it offers a surprisingly accessible way for Britons to immerse themselves in a completely different culture without a major financial barrier.
South Korea takes second place, thanks to one of the lowest entry barriers in the ranking. This is thanks to a minimum income requirement of just £146 per month and a visa fee of £50.
Meanwhile, Serbia ranks third and is the highest-placed European destination, making it particularly appealing for those wanting to stay closer to home. With monthly living costs of around £536 and city-centre rent under £400, it offers a low-risk and budget-friendly introduction to life abroad.
Destinations like New Zealand and Mexico also feature in the top five, highlighting how far expats are willing to travel for a lifestyle change.

Mike Harvey, managing director of 1st Move International, who published the research, said: “For many Britons considering a move overseas, trialling life abroad first offers a practical way to explore a new country without the pressure of a permanent commitment.
"Whether they’re taking an extended holiday to explore the country, its landscape, culture and people, or working abroad as a digital nomad.
“Living abroad for a shorter period of time can help people understand day-to-day costs, housing, healthcare and lifestyle, while reducing the financial and emotional risks often associated with relocation. If they find the shorter stay in a country enjoyable, it often leads to a permanent move.”
