The World Cup this summer will take place across the United States, Canada and Mexico

British travellers planning to attend this summer's FIFA World Cup have received fresh guidance from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The FCDO has revised its advice for the United States, Mexico and Canada, the three nations jointly hosting the tournament from 11 June to 19 July.

Officials have directed supporters to consult a dedicated World Cup page for comprehensive information.

The updated guidance addresses visa and entry requirements, travel insurance, match tickets and stadium access procedures.

Fans are reminded they must carry identification documents at all times.

"You are expected to have a copy of your ESTA or Visa and proof of identity with you at all times," the FCDO states.

The FCDO has cautioned that legal frameworks differ significantly across American states, with visitors bound by both local and federal statutes simultaneously.

"Not following all US state and federal laws can put your visa status and future travel to the US at risk," the guidance warns.

Regulations concerning drugs and illegal substances vary considerably between jurisdictions.

The department has also included specific advice regarding LGBT+ rights, acknowledging that protections differ across the three host countries.

Cultural differences and local customs are addressed in the comprehensive briefing, urging British supporters to familiarise themselves with regional expectations before travelling to North America for the tournament.

The guidance also addresses the significant natural hazards present across the host nations during the summer months.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, flooding, wildfires and volcanic eruptions all feature among the potential risks outlined by officials.

British supporters are advised to monitor local conditions throughout their stay.

Should difficulties arise during the tournament, the FCDO has confirmed assistance remains available.

Support extends to those who find themselves hospitalised, arrested or who lose their passport whilst abroad.

The comprehensive advice has been issued for all UK holidaymakers heading to any of the three North American nations, whether attending matches or simply visiting during the competition period.

Both England and Scotland have secured their places at the tournament, marking Scotland's first World Cup appearance since 1998.

The travel advice update coincided with Scotland head coach Steve Clarke announcing his 26-man squad for the competition.

Craig Gordon, the Hearts goalkeeper, has earned selection at the remarkable age of 43, completing an extraordinary recovery from a double leg break suffered in 2022 that many believed would end his career at the highest level.

Southampton forward Ross Stewart, 29, has also been recalled after a four-year absence from international duty, having last represented his country in 2022.
