Spain, Portugal and France are popular for a reason, but visiting the tourist hotspots can often mean battling through crowds or paying premium prices.
Luckily, there are other parts of Europe that are lesser-known but still great to visit. Liechtenstein, North Macedonia and Luxembourg have been revealed as the destinations with the fewest visitors.
This is according to analysis from cruise and tour operator Riviera Travel, which looked at tourism statistics to find where had the fewest visitors in 2024.
It considered how many nights tourists spent there over the year to find Liechtenstein had the fewest number by far, at just 228,579 nights spent by tourists.

Found between Switzerland and Austria, the experts described Liechtenstein as a "hidden gem" offering "beauty and sophisticated culture".
This was followed by North Macedonia. The experts added: "This Balkan gem is home to Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its ancient lakeside setting, and plenty of Byzantine churches and Ottoman architecture. Travellers can enjoy a trip to North Macedonia without worrying about overcrowded attractions."
In third place is Luxembourg, which had topped the list for fewest tourists the year before. Despite being a gorgeous country, it often flies under the radar.
The experts continued: "This wealthy country has ancient and modern elements, from historic fortresses to contemporary European institutions.

Other hidden gems to consider for your next trip include Latvia, Montenegro and Estonia.
Another hidden gem worth visiting this year is Lake Bled in Slovenia. This has been described as a beautiful lake with turquoise water and a fairytale atmosphere.
It was named as a must-visit European hotspot and one of the most picturesque destinations to visit this winter.
