The disruption, which originated from Amazon Web Services, left thousands of users unable to access key online services on Monday morning
GB News Technology Editor Aaron Brown has warned the UK is becoming too dependent on American tech giants after a major internet outage brought down websites including Amazon, Snapchat and several banks.
The disruption, which originated from Amazon Web Services, left thousands of users unable to access key online services on Monday morning.
Aaron explained on GB News: “Amazon is the biggest, but there are other options around. Google has its own, Microsoft has a huge play in this space as well.
"But we are relying on these American tech companies. They're the ones with the resources, they're building these data centres so there's definitely a risk in that.”
He added that while outages like this are “incredibly inconvenient”, the internet has become “more reliable and more secure” overall in the past two decades.
