You could soon be greeted with a new foldable iPhone

  • Rumours have been swirling that Apple is releasing a foldable iPhone
  • YouTuber Jon Prosser claims to have shared the design ahead of release
  • Apple has never launched a device with a foldable screen before
  • Other brands like Samsung and Google have had their own versions for years
  • This new device could be thinner than iPhone Air
  • Unfolded, it's reportedly nearly the same size as an iPad Mini

You may have heard the rumours swirling about Apple finally jumping into the foldable phone game, and it looks like 2026 could be the year it actually happens. The often-reliable Mark Gurman, of Bloomberg, reported last summer that the US firm is planning to release a foldable smartphone later this year. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo — another whisperer with good sources — believes it's the correct timeline too, confirming the device is on track for 2026.

Now, YouTuber Jon Prosser has just dropped detailed 3D renders and specifications for what he claims is Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone.

This would be a first of its kind for Apple. However, other major tech brands like Samsung and Google have been releasing their own versions for the last couple of years. So, what exactly could you be getting with this foldable iPhone?

When it's closed, it appears you'll be using a 5.5-inch edge-to-edge screen on the outside, which was the size of the screen on the larger "Plus" models of iPhones, notably the iPhone 6 Plus, 6s Plus, 7 Plus, and 8 Plus. These days, that amount of screen real estate would make this handset a bit of an outlier in the lineup in your nearest Apple Store, with the smallest screen in the iPhone 17 range measuring 6.3-inches.

According to the information obtained by the YouTube star, the moment that you unfold the device, you'll be treated to a 7.8-inch OLED display, which is nearly the same size as an iPad Mini (8.3-inch). The phone looks to measure 9mm thick when folded and just 4.5mm when opened – that's actually thinner than the recently released iPhone Air.

The leaks display four cameras in total, with two on the back and one selfie camera for each screen for FaceTime calls and photos.

Perhaps most impressive is Apple's solution to the annoying crease problem that has been known to plague other foldables. For example, in earlier models from Samsung, users reported creasing issues as they continued to fold their mobiles open and closed. Mr Prosser says Apple will rely on a metal plate that spreads out the bending pressure, combined with a liquid metal hinge.

If you're thinking of investing in this new mobile once it finally does arrive, the cost could set you back a bit more compared to other iPhone models. Whispers suggest the starting price for this foldable iPhone is expected somewhere between $2,000 – $2,500 (equivalent to roughly about £1,500 and £1,850), making it one of the priciest phones ever.

That hefty price tag puts it in line with what Samsung charges for the Z Fold 7 (£1,799) and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold (£1,749), so it's not entirely out of step with the other brands.

Mr Prosser suggests the device will launch in September alongside the rumoured iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max as part of a three-phone flagship lineup. You could potentially have your choice of black or white colour options.

There's also speculation Apple might call it the iPhone Ultra rather than iPhone Fold, though nothing's confirmed on the naming front yet either.

This isn't the first time Mr Prosser has leaked Apple's upcoming projects. Apple sued the YouTuber in 2025 after he accurately leaked details about iOS 26 and the company's Liquid Glass design. The lawsuit revealed that someone used an Apple employee's phone to send Mr Prosser information, which suggests he does have sources within the California HQ of the notoriously secret brand.

Despite the legal action, this hasn't stopped Mr Prosser from sharing more Apple secrets.
