Say hello to Motorola's first foldable mobile

  • Motorola announces the new Razr fold phone
  • This is its first foldable mobile, which could compete with Samsung and Google
  • It comes with five cameras
  • The phone is compatible with the new Moto Pen Ultra Stylus
  • It has built-in intuitive AI features
  • The new mobile could be released later this summer

Motorola has announced a new foldable phone — the first with a book-style design. Dubbed Razr Fold, this new Android device opens up like a paperback to reveal an expansive tablet-like touchscreen on the inside.

This isn't the first device from Motorola with a flexible display since it's produced multiple next-generation Razr handsets with a foldable OLED that unfurls like a flip phone. The most recent is the Razr 60 Ultra.

The book-style is a new design from Motorola, but it's the same concept Samsung and Google have been doing for years. Recent leaks also suggest that Apple could be unveiling its very own foldable model, too.

Here's everything you can expect to find from the upcoming Razr Fold, and how it could stand out from its rivals.

On the outside, Motorola has fitted a 6.6-inch exterior screen, which looks like any standard smartphone. You can use this to check turn-by-turn directions, quickly reply to text messages, pick a track from Spotify, and more.

If you need a little more screen real estate, there's a massive 8.1-inch display with 2K display resolution on the inside of the handset that can be unfurled. This is ideal for playing games on the biggest possible screen, multi-tasking between apps, and watching your favourite boxset or blockbuster.

If you never want to miss capturing a memory, the camera setup is worth noting.

You're getting five cameras in total — with three 50MP sensors on the back. The first is a primary wide lens powered by Sony's LYTIA sensor (the tech that makes your photos brighter and richer), an ultrawide that doubles as a macro for those close-up shots of flowers or food, and a 3x telephoto for zooming in on distant subjects.

For selfies, there's a 32MP camera on the outside, which is ideal for quick snaps when the phone's closed. You'll also get a 20MP lens inside for video calls when you've got the big screen open.

You can even record video in Dolby Vision, giving your footage cinematic quality.

The Razr Fold also works with the new Moto Pen Ultra stylus, complete with palm rejection – so you can rest your hand on the screen while writing without it going haywire. In comparison, Samsung recently dropped stylus support on its latest Galaxy Z Fold 7, so this could be a good option if you prefer to have the extra accessory.

Moto Pen Ultra

You can turn the all-new Motorola Razr Fold into a digital canvas or workstation with the Moto Pen Ultra

You're also getting some clever on-device AI features built in. There's Catch Me Up, which does exactly what it sounds like – keeps you in the loop on what you've missed. There's even a feature called Next Move that helps you stay organised and one step ahead by giving suggestions based on your activity.

These AI tools run directly on the phone itself, meaning they'll still work even if you're not connected to the internet.

You'll be able to pick up the Razr Fold in two Pantone-inspired colours – Blackened Blue and Lily White — similar to a deep navy or crisp white, depending on your style.

Although Motorola hasn't revealed the price yet. Rumours suggest it could land around £1,200 to £1,500, which would undercut what Samsung charges for the Z Fold 7 (£1,799) and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold (£1,749).

You may need to hold on for a little while before you can have it for yourself, though, as it's not expected to release until later this summer.
