ExpressVPN has launched a new Identity Defender app for iOS and Android.
Similar to the recent roll-out of a standalone ExpressKeys password manager, the core fucntionality included in the new Identity Defender app was previously baked into the core ExpressVPN app. By breaking out these features into a standalone app, the developers have allowed the ExpressVPN to be streamlined, while bringing together all of its privacy tools into a redesigned interface tailored specifically to identity monitoring tasks.
Since the launch of new identity features will no longer impact the core VPN service, we're likely to see a faster pace of releases for this standalone app – something that's also true for ExpressVPN's password manager app. As security and privacy threats continue to evolve, the faster turnaround enabled by this shake-up should ensure ExpressVPN subscribers are always on the cutting-edge of new features.

ExpressVPN has launched a standalone iOS and Android app, dubbed Identity Defender, that brings together all of its privacy-focused features into a single, redesigned suite. ExpressVPN will proactively monitor the Dark Web for any password, email address, phone number, or National Insurance number leaks... as well as checking your Credit Score, warning about any suspicious transactions in your name, and a slew of other concerning activity that could be a sign that you've fallen victim to identity fraud
ExpressVPN Chief Operating Officer, Shay Peretz told GB News: "While developing this product, I was inspired by wanting to protect the people I care about most. Understanding potential risks, monitoring for threats, and having greater visibility into your personal security shouldn’t be complicated. Identity Defender is a must-have tool for anyone who values their privacy and security, and I’m incredibly proud that we’re bringing this level of protection and peace of mind to our ExpressVPN users."

ExpressVPN was already one of the best VPN deals, but the security firm has been on a tear with the roll-out of its new MailGuard functionality at no extra cost, a complete redesign to its desktop apps, and the launch of a standalone password manager and Identity Defender app for iOS and Android.
For now, the launch of Identity Defender app is restricted to the United States of America. That's because some of the features aren't available in other countries, but fingers crossed for a wider roll-out in the coming weeks and months.

If you are able to download the Identity Defender app, you'll find a long list of useful features, including:
- ID Alerts will check for signs of identity misuse, like any suspicious activity online linked to your email, home address, phone number
- It includes Dark Web Monitoring, which now covers a wider set of identifiers to improve visibility into potential exposure on illicit sites and forums, including business license information, crypto wallet identifiers, gamertags, mother’s maiden name, NPIN, and usernames, alongside details like name, address, date of birth, email, and National Insurance number
- ID Theft Insurance (provided by Assurant) offers restoration support and financial coverage in the event of identity theft. Eligible users can now access expanded coverage options, increasing protection from $1M to $3M and $5M
- Data Removal helps reduce exposure by finding and removing personal information from data brokers and people-search websites
- Credit Scanner offers a constant overview of your credit score, with access to real-time alerts and detailed monthly Credit Report for potential fraud, so users can spot risks early and track changes over time
With the launch, the team at ExpressVPN has made some changes to the functionality too. From today, subscribers will benefit from Court Record Monitoring that proactively monitors public court and judicial records for any activity linked to your real-life identity — sending a warning when the system stumbles across potential misuse, identity fraud, or unauthorised legal activity in your name. There's also Neighbourhood Watch, which uses publicly available data to warn when a registered sex offender moves into your loca area.
As the name suggests, the newly-added High-Risk Transaction Monitoring feature tracks unusually large or suspicious financial transactions associated with your personal identity. Warning about these transactions early can be a sure-fire way to spot fraud or a compromised bank account. Identity Defender will also proactively check for vehicle title record changes, alerting you when anything is altered that could signal suspicious activity.
